Science Week

During Science week the children in Hamilton class learnt about The Human Body. They looked at and put together the bones of a skeleton and learnt about our main organs. The children researched and learnt the job of the lungs, the kidneys, the heart and the stomach and placed them in the correct place on a live size cut out of themselves. They made models to represent the job of the lungs.

The children from Hamilton Class visited MOD Pizza. They were shown around and had the opportunity to see where all the food and preparation took place. The children were able to ask questions and find out all the information needed on how the pizzas were made. At the end of the tour, the children picked their own toppings to make their pizzas. We all had a great time!
We have had a great start to the year, we are focusing our topic on Formula 1 racing and are excited for the challenges ahead.

On Monday 23rd April 2018, the PSB took part in British Values and St George's Day! First we had a discussion about British Values: what they are, what they mean to us and how we use them in our everyday lives. To celebrate the day the children then followed a recipe to make some scones. They were delicious!

In honour of St George - the staff in the PSB performed the story of St George for the children - the boys had an excellent understanding and could re-tell the story perfectly. They then had a go at acting out the story themselves!

Today; we invited two representatives from Herts Young Homeless into the PSB for breakfast! The children wanted to show their appreciation for all the hard work they do throughout Hertfordshire! The PSB adults were so proud of the boys today, it was a team effort, the children had impeccable manners and made our visitors feel very welcome! Have a look at the photos below...

As part of the Summerswood Gratitude Project the children in the PSB chose to be thankful to the charity -Herts Young Homeless for all their hard work. This week they attempted to build a shelter using only cardboard, string and newspaper. They had to work as a team to build it, we then had a discussion and reflected on how they might feel if this was actually their home. Take a look at the photos below to see the children hard at work!

Anti-bullying week - "All different, all equal"

This week in the PSB the children have been showing their support for Anti-bullying week! The pictures below are a sample of some of the activities we have been doing in class. The activities have raised lots of great discussions!

*We made a banner to raise awareness!

*We experimented with smarties and water to compare how, despite the exterior differences, all the smarties are the same on the inside! We then discussed how this might positively change the way we treat people in the future.

*We then did the plaster activity to understand the difference between being treated equally or fairly.

The children in the PSB have been learning about Remembrance Day and the reason why we wear poppies. We decided to make a poppy each to add to a wreath for outdoor learning. We then held a 2 minute silence as a mark of respect!

Kung-fu punctuation!
