Governing Body Roles

What is the role of the Governors?

The Governors are a body of people who are responsible for a huge array of duties ranging from managing the school budget, to employing staff, to overseeing the curriculum and ensuring the upkeep of the building. Our Governors work very hard for the development of successful learning at Summerswood.

Who are our Governors?

Mr Tim Bailey - Chair of Governors - Chair of School Improvement Committee

Tim has recently retired from BP where for over 35 years he held leadership roles in the Drilling & Wells Organization, involving drilling operations, well engineering, strategy and planning, technology and most recently learning and competency development. He became a Governor in 2000 at Hobletts Manor Infants’ and Nursery School and has been Chair since 2004. In 2012 he became a National Learner of Governance, coaching other Chairs and supporting other Governing Bodies in Hertfordshire.  Tim also sits on the IEB for Sarratt Primary School which has recently achieved a Good for Ofsted.  Tim is married to Susan and they have three grown up children who have all left the roost. NGKY – No grand kids yet!

Dr Jeanette Thrilling - Parent Governor - Vice Chair, Chair of Staffing and Pupil Welfare      Committee,  Resources Committee

I have been a Parent Governor since May 2015. I am on the Resources Committee, the Staff and Pupil Welfare Committee and I am the Health and Safety Governor. I am married with two children, both of whom attend Summerswood. I enjoy reading and spending time with my family and friends. I am a clinical neuropsychologist working in the NHS and hope to use my skills and experience to support Summerswood in its continued development

Pecuniary Interest

I have 2 children attending Summerswood Primary School in Year 2 and Year 5.

Miss Sarah Kneller – Head Teacher – School Improvement Committee

I became Headteacher at Summerswood in September 2014 and am enjoying working alongside our governors. They are a supportive group of people who are committed to working alongside me to make Summerswood the very best it can be.

Mrs Pat Strack - LEA Governor - Personnel Committee

I have been a governor at Summerswood for about 30 years. Members of my family have been pupils at the school. Before retirement, I was a teacher and then a schools' advisor. I now have environment commitments to Woodcock Hill Village Green, Green Belt society, Aldenham Country Park Trust Ltd. and am a committee member of MENCAP and a trustee of Borehamwood Museum. Currently I have the honour of being the Mayor of the Town. I enjoy all that London has to offer galleries, museums, architecture, shows, plays and the Thames. I love to travel but enjoy life here in Borehamwood with my family who are close by.

Mrs Kerri Walker - Co-Opted Governor - Resources Committee

I started working at Summerswood over 15 years ago when both of my children attended the school. They are now grown up; one is a teacher and the other works for the BBC and is about to start University. I am the School Business Manager and support on the Resources Committee of the Governing Body. In my spare time I love spending time with my family!

Ms Paula Gregory - Co-opted Governor - School Improvement Committee

I have been a governor at Summerswood Primary since 2002 and have seen so many positive changes. I have two grown up children that came to this school and thoroughly enjoyed their time here. I am a Computing teacher at a local secondary school and a swimming teacher at Borehamwood Swimming Club.

I am the Vice Chair of the School Improvement Committee and responsible for safeguarding.

In my spare time I enjoy growing fruit and vegetables and love a good novel!

Cristian Crucean - Parent Governor

Having worked as a finance manager for a college for the last 5 years I have developed an interest in children education and development. I am keen to help the school in the management of its resources to provide children with a great environment for learning and development. It is a privilege to be part of the school's governing body and I look forward to meeting the people involved with the school and learning how the school works.

Pecuniary Interest

I have 1 child attending Summerswood Primary School in Reception class.
