Science

Intent Statement

At Summerswood Primary School, we recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life.  As one of the core subjects taught in Primary Schools, we give the teaching and learning of Science the emphasis it requires.

The Scientific area of learning is concerned with ensuring a secure understanding of scientific language and knowledge, whilst building the foundations for understanding our world.  We will develop the skills associated with Science to work scientifically and possess enquiring minds. We will increase the natural curiosity of children, whilst allowing them to make predictions, tackle misconceptions and be able to investigate using a fair test.

Science Curriculum Overview

Science 2024 - 2025

Pupil and staff wellbeing is uppermost in our minds when planning a science curriculum which needs to fill the gaps in pupil’s learning, due to the time that pupils were unable to attend school.

Therefore, the identified gaps have been incorporated into future learning so that by the time pupils reach year 6, they will have covered most of the aspects of the science national curriculum.
