The Governors are a body of people who are responsible for a huge array of duties ranging from managing the school budget, to employing staff, to overseeing the curriculum and ensuring the upkeep of the building. Our Governors work very hard for the development of successful learning at Summerswood.
Dr Jeanette Thrilling: Co-opted Governor - Chair, Chair of Staffing and Pupil Welfare Committee and School Improvement Committee (May 2015)
I was initially a Parent Governor when I joined the Governing Body in May 2015. I have since been made a co-opted Governor in 2018. I was elected Chair of Governors in October 2018. I am on the Resources Committee, School Improvement Committee and I am Chair of the Staff and Pupil Welfare Committee. I have taken various roles as a Governor, for example, health and safety, attendance, disadvantaged children, linking with phase leaders, exit interviews for staff and staff surveys. I am married with two children, one is at Summerswood and one has now moved on to secondary school. I enjoy reading and spending time with my family and friends. I am a clinical neuropsychologist working in the NHS and hope to use my skills and experience to support Summerswood in its continued journey to success.

Having worked as a finance manager for a college for the last 7 years I have developed an interest in children education and development. I am keen to help the school in the management of its resources to provide children with a great environment for learning and development.

Mr John McConville: Deputy Headteacher (2017)
I joined Summerswood in September 2017 as the Deputy Head. I attend the full governing body meetings, resources committee and school improvement committee. My main area of focus during meetings is school data and explaining current attainment and progress to the governors. Currently I am working with the governing body and staff of the school to update the behaviour policy and curriculum.

Mrs Pat Strack: LEA Governor (1979)
I have lived in Borehamwood for over 40 years. One of my 4 children and 4 of my 6 grandchildren attended Summerswood. Two of my children still live in Borehamwood with their families. Before I retired, I was a teacher in Haringey and I then became an adviser to teachers, implementing changes to the curriculum, providing training for SATs, supporting schools in administering SATs and moderating their work. Separately, I ran a company training staff in design and technology, science and IT, and selling resources to schools to support those subjects.
I have been a governor at Summerswood since 1979, appointed by the Local authority. My other interests are Woodcock Hill Village Green, EBGBS, and the NSPCC Committee. I support Scouting in the town and am a member of the Studios Rotary Club. I help run three Clubs for Seniors, namely the Monday Club, Dementia Club and DR96, and I have been a Town councillor for 12 years

Mrs Kerri Walker: School Business Manager - Co-Opted Governor (October 2014)
I started working at Summerswood over 18 years ago when both of my children attended the school. They are now grown up; one is an Early Years Leader at a school in Hatfield and the other has recently got married and will hopefully be giving me Grandchildren soon!!. I am the School Business Manager and support on the Resources Committee of the Governing Body. I have seen many changes during my time here at Summerswood and am looking forward to being part of the journey to Outstanding! In my spare time I enjoy being part of a motorbike club and touring England and Europe with them and love spending time with my family!

Ms Paula Gregory: Co-opted Governor (2002)
I have been a governor at Summerswood Primary since 2002 and have seen so many positive changes. I have two grown up children that came to this school and thoroughly enjoyed their time here. I am a Computing teacher at a local secondary school and a swimming teacher at Borehamwood Swimming Club.
I am the Vice Chair of the School Improvement Committee and responsible for safeguarding.
In my spare time I enjoy growing fruit and vegetables and love a good novel!

Miss Joanne Froy: Assistant Headteacher - Year 6 Teacher - Teacher Governor (September 2017)
This is my 4th year at Summerswood and since starting in 2014 I have taught in Year 1 and Year 2. I have been both Early Years and KS1 phase leader and in May 2018 I was appointed as Assistant Head. My passion for teaching began when I was at primary school and from an early age I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I have been teaching for 11 years and have gained a variety of teaching experience including working in an outstanding school and an International School. When I first came to Summerswood it had been judged ‘Requires Improvement’ by Ofsted in a recent inspection. I am very proud to have been part of the journey to be judged ‘Good’ in November 2016, and I continue to be passionate and determined to ensure we achieve ‘Outstanding’ in our next inspection. In my spare time I enjoy shopping, going to the theatre and going on holiday!

I have served in the Resourcing & School Improvement Committees since September 2016. I have taken part in a number of events in the school governance matters such as Academy option assessment, GDPR processes & policy, Disciplinary panel and Investigations. I have found my time serving Summerwood governing board engaging & rewarding.
With my experience as a manager of operational excellence in financial technology initiatives and as a mother of young child, I bring a wealth of knowledge to support Summerswood in its ‘Pathway to success’.
I also enjoy travelling with my husband & daughter, reading and taking on new challenges.

Mr James Conradi: Co-opted Governor (November 2018)
I am a HR professional with almost 10 years’ experience working in Financial Services. I currently work as Head of HR for a Global International Finance Company, where I have built up a professional career in HR. I want to be able to bring my skills and experience into a different environment and help out my community in a new capacity.
I have experience in; recruitment, employment law, employee relations (i.e. disciplinaries, grievances and contentious exits), compensation & benefits, payroll, policy development and implementation, compliance & regulation, finance, GDPR, organisational design & development and L&D.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to be part of Summerswood’s Governing body and to work with other governors to help improve the school for the benefit of all.

Mrs Jocelyn Jorgenson-Kemp: Parent Governor (December 2019)
I joined as a Parent Governor in December 2019. My eldest daughter joined Summerswood in the Nursery in 2018 and I have another daughter due to join the Nursery in September 2022.
It is wonderful to see my eldest daughter grow and develop through education. As a parent, I feel strongly that all children should have a positive and enriching school experience. I am delighted to have joined the Summerswood Governor team as a parent governor, and in this role I look forward to supporting continuous development within the school and giving back to the local community.
Career wise, I have worked in a large inner London secondary school for the last 10 years in a variety of roles, culminating in my current role of HR Manager and Headteacher’s EA. I enjoy working there and hope that my experience in a school setting will stand me in good stead to be a valuable member of the governing body.
